Key revisions from the 2016 DID List to the 2023 version:

  • The DID-list, part A (*)

    • has updated data for 14 existing substances:

      • the acute toxicity values for one substance have been adjusted,

      • the safety factor for chronic toxicity for one substance has been adjusted,

      • the aerobic degradation has been changed to readily biodegradable and the degradation factor changed from 1 to 0,05 for two substances,

      • the anaerobic degradation has been changed from O to Y for 10 substances.

      • the name for four substances has been clarified and two substances have been merged into one DID number.

    • has been extended with 29 new substances in total.

      • three of the new ingredients are surfactants and one new substance is a preservative.

      • the remaining 25 new substances are added under “other ingredients” and most of them are widely used in cosmetic products as hair/skin conditioning, solvent, softener/emollient, moisturiser/humectant, or UV filter.

      • some of the ingredients are also used in cleaning products, hand dishwashing or car and boat care products.

      • a widely used enzyme stabiliser has also been added.

  • In the DID-list, part B:

    • the approach for ingredients that are listed on the DID-list is updated, so that both the existing exemptions for perfume and block polymers are mentioned.

    • it is  clarified that if data is missing on the DID-list, the procedure for ingredients not listed on the DID-list can be used.

    • the approach for ingredients that are not listed on the DID-list is updated with recommended test methods for both toxicity, aerobic biodegradation, and anaerobic biodegradation.

    • the data descriptions in the safety factor table have been updated so that they are clearer and more consistent.

    • worst case data to be used when there is no available data is added.
